The Brevard High School Chorus is planning a trip to visit Baltimore, New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.

The group leaves Wednesday, February 27 and travels to Baltimore, where they will spend time sightseeing and go out to dinner. The next day they travel to Pennsylvania where they will attend a Master Class with Rallo Dilworth, a well-known and experienced composer.

The group’s trip to New York City will span two days. First they will go to see the hit Broadway musical “Wicked” and then head over to the Hard Rock Café for lunch. The members of the chorus will then perform at the cathedral of St. John’s the Divine. The second day is just as busy as the first, including a return trip to Broadway to see “The Lion King.” After the show, they will have the opportunity to take a tour around Ellis Island to see the Statue of Liberty. Finally, the chorus will go on to visit Ground Zero before heading to Washington D.C. for a last little bit of performing and sightseeing. The group is expected back at the High School the evening of Saturday, March 3.

Shumate expressed excitement at the opportunity for her students: “Having the opportunity to perform at our nation’s capital is absolutely amazing,” she said. “It’s something that will literally only happen once in a lifetime.”

In addition to making memories, Shumate hopes students will acquire some professional knowledge to improve the annual school musical in May. She also wants her students to return as stronger singers and to learn about specific opportunities for arts careers.
