April 22 officially wrapped up the Interact canned food drive.

The event raised just under two hundred cans in just two weeks. All of the items will be going to the Sharing House, a local Brevard non-profit that assists those in need in the community. The food drive was also a competition between ten third period classes with the incentive of a pizza party.

BHS science teacher Laura Patch said that although it is called a canned food drive, many other non perishable items were collected including, boxed and packaged food items as well as toiletries such as deodorant and toothpaste.

Patch said, “We worked in conjunction with the Spanish Club, who also raised money for the Sharing House.” Patch also said, “We were hoping for more classes to participate, but we were excited about the effort made in classes that did participate.” She also said that they would like to give special recognition to  English teacher Meredith Licht’s third period for raising the most cans and study skills teacher Rebecca Columbo and English teacher Christina Dodson’s third period classes for coming in second and third place.

Sophomore and Interact board member Madeleine Cook said that the fundraiser was a great success. She said, “We raised about 200 cans.” Cook also said that this was the first time that the club had done a can food drive and that the success of the drive was very exciting. She also said that the club was very proud of all the classes that participated. She also said that the generosity from the classes exceeded their expectations.
