Men’s tennis dominates against Pisgah and North Henderson

Brevard High School’s men’s tennis team hosted the WNCAC Conference Tournament on April 23, at Brevard College, and dominated play against various conference opponents.

Instead of having a double-header against Pisgah High School like planned, the WNCAC officials and school coaches agreed to push the tournament up a day, in fear of bad weather on the day previously scheduled. But the change didn’t affect Brevard’s play, and the Blue Devils had a strong showing against opponents from Pisgah High and North Henderson High School.

Sophomore Joseph Roberts earned a spot in the Regional tournament by getting to the championship game for single-play in conference. Though he lost the final match in three sets (1-6, 6-2, and 8-10), Roberts had a very strong showing, and played quite well.

Brevard also dominated in doubles play, and had two different teams in the conference finals for doubles. The duo of Senior Clark Andersen and Freshman Logan Dye defeated the team of Junior Chris Wilson and Sophomore Andy McCall in 3 sets, with the final being 6-2, 3-6, and 7-5.

Both doubles teams qualified to play in the regionals, which will be held at Newton Connover on Friday, May 3.
