April 30 marked Senior Night at the baseball and softball fields, and many people turned out to help show support to Brevard’s athletes as they played against teams from North Henderson.

The softball team celebrated the high school careers of seniors Aquaisha Avery, Kayla Byrd, Kerstin Landreth, and Michaela Harbin, and earned a win for their seniors in dominant fashion, by a score of 8-4.

The Lady Devils had a hot start to the game, and got to North Henderson pitching early. After loading the bases, and with help from a few costly errors by North’s infield, BHS had a 5-run first inning. They scored again in the fourth inning, thanks to a home run from Senior Aquaisha Avery. Brevard fans went wild as Avery blasted a pitch over the outfield wall, and it was a very special moment for her on Senior Night. The Lady Devils were able to tack on two more runs in the fifth inning, and even though they gave up some runs later, were able to hold on for the win.

The baseball team celebrated the careers of seven seniors: Tyler Queen, Brett Meany, John Freeman, Austin Roberts, Bolt Bishop, Hank Smith, and Jalen Wilkes. But the Blue Devils’ Senior Night was spoiled by their North Henderson opponents, and were defeated 10-1.

Starting pitcher Tyler Queen had a shaky first few innings, and gave up 3 runs in the second inning. He struggled again in the third, and loaded the bases. North Henderson then scored by stealing home plate, and added on a few more runs to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Knights. After that, North’s Lance Haney hit a deep home run to left-center to increase the lead even more. Queen was relieved in the fourth inning, with the score at 9-1.

Brevard’s only run came in the second inning, after Austin Adams hit a leadoff double and advanced to third base on the following play.

He was hit in by Caleb Owenby, who singled, and made the score 3-1. But the Blue Devils didn’t cross the plate again for the rest of the game, and lost 10-1.

The Lady Devils finished their home play with an impressive 11-1 record, and are now 18-2 overall. The baseball team now sports a 9-12 record, and was 6-8 at home.
