Brevard–Many students at Brevard High School are getting into the holiday spirit by giving back to the community.

These students have been participating in Winter Days, a fundraiser ran by Student Council. Winter Days was implemented to raise money for children and families in the county who are less fortunate.

Student Council representatives participating in Winter Days went to different businesses across the county asking for sponsors and donations and they even asked for donations around the school. The students then went to the local Walmart to buy the presents that were on the children’s wish lists, on a budget of course.

On Monday, Dec. 9, Student Council held a “wrapping party.” This is where the students wrapped the presents that they had previously bought. After the students wrapped all of the gifts, they packed them in multiple vehicles and delivered them to the Department of Social Services in Transylvania County.

Freshman Student Council Vice President Diana Bodie says, “I feel what we did was a good thing because, without the effort we put into this, the people wouldn’t have the Christmas that they deserve.”

Bodie adds, “The people at DSS said the children and even some of the adults don’t even know these gifts are coming.”

“With the help of these students and all who participated, these people may actually have a real Christmas.”
