New Lighting System At BHS

New lighting system

By John Miller

This year a dream has finally been realized for Brevard High School’s theatre and chorus departments. A new lighting system has been installed just in time for this years musical, Les Miserables. However this system is bigger than one musical, it’s a much needed improvement that has been a long time coming.

The lighting system was dedicated to Randy Buford, a former theatre student who was tragically killed while serving in the marines. Buford’s parents set up a fund to help out the theatre department at BHS. It is also dedicated to Amber Rhodes, a current theatre student who has been diagnosed with brain cancer. When PowerSecure CEO Sidney told Amber they would give her one no restrictions gift, she thought of others before herself. She wanted cushion the seats in BHS’s auditorium but eventually decided to help out with the lighting system. It would not have been possible without the fund setup for the theatre department and the generous donation by PowerSecure.

The new lighting system is very complicated and Mrs. Shumate has called on former student Melanie Miller and Andrea Bocanfusso from Brevard College for help. Les Miserables, Mrs. Shumates last musical will be the debut of the new lighting system.
