With October being national Breast Cancer Awareness month, “Fight like a Devil” T-shirts are being sold at Brevard High School to raise money for breast cancer research. A “pink out” will be held on Friday, October 17th during the football game to raise awareness for breast cancer.

“I’m going to buy one right now,” said Marilyn Gasperson, breast cancer survivor.

The pink shirts that read “Fight like a Devil” are being sold in sizes small, medium, large, and extra large. Cheerleaders placed the orders at lunch until October 6 and s tudents will be given their shirts before the football game on October 17th.

“I think they’re cute,” said Mrs. Hendricks, health occupations teacher of Brevard High School.

They will cost eight dollars each. The six dollars will be used to cover the cost of each shirt while the two remaining dollars will be donated to Relay for Life, a cancer research foundation.

This idea was brought up by Renee Pagano, an English teacher at Brevard Middle School. Rosman had sold T-shirts last year and were fairly successful with raising money and awareness for breast cancer.

Breast cancer, like most types of cancer, has a high survival rate if treated early. It is divided into four different stages.  In stage one and two, the cancer is confined to one area, meaning it had not yet spread. These are considered to be the early stages. However, during stage three and four, the cancer starts to spread all over the body throughout the lymph nodes, in which decreases the survival rate drastically.

“Please help the cheerleaders donate to a worthy cause and let’s show our support October 17th in the fight against cancer,” said Jason Ormsby, principal of Brevard High School.
