Brevard students get hands on experience in horticulture in the greenhouse.

Brevard High School’s greenhouse was built in 2006 for plants that need protection from cold weather. Dan Harris said that the greenhouse’s original purpose was to serve as a learning lab for Horticulture students, but the Future Farmers of America members visit it, too.

Many plants are produced in the greenhouse, such as seasonal annual flowers, perennials, and different types of vegetables.  The temperature in the greenhouse changes often because of the different types of plants that are growing.

The FFA program and Horticulture classes help maintain and care for the plants in the greenhouse.

The greenhouse was built mainly out of fiberglass. It is dimmer than regular glass, but lets in just as much of light for the plants to grow and is also cheaper. The greenhouse is located behind the vocational wing.
