Christmas Time at BHS

By Theo Holshouser

It’s that time of year again, time to celebrate winter holidays and gather together to spread cheer. Christmas traditions include attending a religious service Christmas eve or day, the erecting of a celebratory Christmas tree indoors, and most notably, the giving of gifts to one another.

The number of people that celebrate Christmas is lower with each year; in a survey, 92% of adults identify with putting up a Christmas tree when they were kids, however as parents only 79% Identify with putting up a Christmas tree.

Reed Dempsey, freshman, explains what his family usually does for Christmas: “We get a Christmas tree and hang ornaments on it and lights. On Christmas we come in the morning and open the presents under the tree.”

Another big part of Christmas is Christmas break.  School will not be in session the week of Christmas or the week of New Years and will resume on January 5. Including weekends, the days off will be from Saturday, December 20 to Sunday, January 4, totaling 16 days of school-free holiday bliss.

Christmas is the most-celebrated holiday in the U.S however it’s not the only holiday celebrated this time of year. Many holidays other than Christmas of many different cultures are also celebrated this time of year such as Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and Yule.

Regardless of what you celebrate this month, the BHS Broadcaster team wishes you happy holidays!
