BHS Band Students Qualify for Exclusive Clinic

by: Maggie Roth

Last Thursday, many Brevard High School band members traveled to Tuscola High School to audition for the All-District Band. Students from several schools in the Western North Carolina area come every year to compete for a position in the band. Brevard had ten students make it into the district-level band this year, and five students have the opportunity to audition for the state-level band.

The audition process consists of performing a solo, scales, and a sight-reading piece in front of three judges, who then rank each student according to their total score. Students that score high enough will have the opportunity to travel to Western Carolina University on February 13th and 14th for the All-District Clinic. They’ll be able to work with other students who made the District Band, learn several new musical pieces, and perform a final concert with a guest band director.

Congratulations to Brevard’s Julia Smith (Freshman, Baritone), Forrest Fisher (Junior, Trumpet), Logan Dye (Junior, Snare), Maggie Dodson (Senior, Trumpet), and Tyler Hutchins (Sophomore, Trumpet) for being All-State eligible. Following the district clinic, they will have the option to audition on a statewide level for another clinic that will be held at University of North Carolina Greensboro.
