On October 31, starting at 10:00 a.m., witches, mummies, ghosts, and princesses will walk the streets of Brevard, all in search of two things–candy and prizes.  Halloweenfest is one of the most exciting locally-hosted events of the year, and it brings an assortment of uniquely-dressed individuals and fun games together into one big festival.

One of the most exciting events of Halloweenfest is the annual costume contest. Participants of all ages enter the contest hoping to win the prize for the best overall costume.  Though most who enter do so to win the overall prize, there are prizes for many ages and an assortment of costume categories.

Many then participate in the annual Halloween/costume parade. Children and adults of all ages march the streets of Brevard, showing off their Halloween costumes to all who watch from the sidewalks.

Halloweenfest is a good opportunity to experience the diversity of food in Transylvania County.  This festival has everything from delicious egg rolls at Chameleon Catering to greasy funnel cakes topped with powdered sugar.

“The food is really great,” said Nyx Siniard.  “My favorite thing about Halloweenfest is eating all the fattening foods I normally don’t eat.”

Another feature of Halloweenfest is its live music.  Bands from all over western North Carolina come to play a variety of music from rock to bluegrass.

One of the most widely attended events of Halloweenfest is its annual Flight of the Vampire run/walk.  People from all over attend this race to see beautiful Brevard and Maple Street’s Halloween decorations.  The Flight of the Vampire is a family-friendly race.  All walkers, strollers, runners, and costume-wearers are welcome!

“My favorite thing at Halloweenfest is the Flight of the Vampire run,” said Lillie Siniard. “It’s super fun and easy, and anyone can do it.  The course is great too.  It’s so much fun to run in your costume and see everyone else’s costumes!”

Halloweenfest is one of the most exciting outdoor festivals Brevard has to offer.  Its fun activities and competitions make it lots of fun for kids and adults of all ages.  No matter the weather, Brevard encourages everyone to get out to Halloweenfest on October 31 for a day filled with laughter, mystique, and spooktacular fun!
