Brevard High School is full of talented students. This year, eight BHS students attended All-District Band at Western Carolina University. Madison Allen, Sara Megown, Julia Smith, John Nguyen, Ashlea Milligan, Ellie Rudd, Crista Cali, and Tyler Hutchins all traveled early on February 12th to the university. They stayed for two intense days of practicing and learning from experienced, professional mentors to prepare for a concert on Saturday night.
In order to be selected as a member of this band, students have to audition. As a result, the band consists of the best players from the western region of the state. John Nguyen comments on this fact, saying “I am most excited about district band because you are with people with the same passion as you and everyone can play, so it is just breathtaking to hear the first note.”
When students make first chair in All-District Band, they then have the opportunity to audition for All-State Band, a more prestigious clinic. This year Ellie Rudd and John Nguyen have earned this incredible opportunity. We wish them luck as they prepare for this new endeavor!
