by Lauren Tooley

Three projects from the TIME class traveled to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC to compete in the North Carolina Science and Engineering Fair. The best projects from the state of North Carolina competed for category awards as well as special awards offered by independent organizations.

Sam Lemel, Aidan Spradlin, and Hannah Field impressed the employees of Social Scientific Systems, Inc. with their project on using bioremediation to remove lead from contaminated water.

Social Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS) is research company that focuses on improving global public health. They offer support to public and private companies who are researching public health.

At the North Carolina Science and Engineering Fair, they awarded Sam, Aidan, and Hannah a public health award that was paired with a $250 award for each student. Sam said “Our project was about removing lead from the environment and its really related to public health, so I think they really liked the project.”

Congratulations to these students for representing the TIME program and BHS at the state level!
