Get Caught Reading Month

Guess what? May is national Get Caught Reading Month! Get Caught Reading (GCR) is a nation wide campaign to remind people how important and fun it is to read! Founded in 1999 by the Association of American Publishers. The GCR campaign offers free posters year round, but starting this month they have designed new and creative posters featuring the Doozers from Fraggle Rock, the Enchanted Sisters, and actress Mary-Louise Parker.
If posters aren’t really your thing, you can always check out all the cool things going on at the Transylvania County Library. On May 20th, the library will be be hosting the Looking Glass Writers’ Conference Keynote. This Conference will feature writers Rick Bass, Ron Rash, and Marjorie Hudson. This will be held at the Porter Center for Performing Arts at Brevard College from 7:30pm-9:00pm. Tickets will be $10 and will be available at the Transylvania County Library as well as many other locations in WNC. The next day Rash and Hudson will be holding a book signing, and will be spending the evening talking about environmental issues in WNC. Seating is limited so call and reserve your seat by contacting the TCL at (828) 884-3151.
The next week on May 24th, from 4:30pm-6:00pm, local authors Megan Shepherd who is most famous for her Madman’s Daughter series and Megan Miranda who recently published her newest young adult novel, The Safest Lies. The two authors are long-time critique partners and will be talking about the evolution of their careers as well as giving some writing tips. If you’re passionate about writing you should definitely check it out!
