Reality of Money Workshop

By Madeline Dierauf

On Friday, May 5, several CTE classes participated in a workshop to learn about the reality of money.

The workshop was organized by State Employees Credit Union, and several volunteers from the community participated to make it happen.

Classes that participated were Personal Finance, Civics and Economics, and other various classes.

Students picked a random career and then tried to budget their money through different stations. The goal was to have money left at the end of the month. Some students found themselves in debt, often due to a “stuff happens” station and their credit card bill. If this happened, they could pick up a part time job or answer a financial question right and make $50.

Overall, it was a big success, and many students budgeted well. As Mrs. McCall said, “It worked out really well and I think the students learned quite a bit.”
