Some students in our school seem to never stop helping. Some girls in particular love volunteering with SMART girls, which many know as Girls on the Run.

Girls on the Run is non-profit organization whose mission is to create a world where every girl realizes her potential and reaches for her dreams. The Brevard Elementary School-based group meets every week on Wednesday after school and serves 3rd through 5th graders .

SMART Girls learn Skills Mastery And Resistance Training as they are taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches. The program includes three parts: understanding the self, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how young girls fit and mold the world at large.

SMART Girls uses running to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence. Important social, psychological, and physical skills and abilities are developed and reinforced throughout the program.

SMART Girls is affiliated with the Boys & Girls Club. Boys & Girls Clubs serve nearly 4 million young people each year through membership and community outreach in more than 4,000 facilities.

People who are interested in supporting the SMART Girls program or any other Boys & Girls Club programs are encouraged to contact Jackie Witherspoon at the Boys & Girls Club by calling (828) 885-7800.

  1. Hi, My name is Amber Carroll. In 4th grade, I actually ran a 5k with Girls on the Run. I know I had a great time, and it definitely did its job, of inspiring girls. I never thought that I could have done it, but… I did!
I hope other people will join and take advantage of this opportunity.
    Kind Regards,
    Amber Carroll 🙂
