Brevard High School is lucky to have talented students in all aspects, but recently the chorus students have been very successful. Diana Bodie and Will Field, sophomores, and Emily Sheffield and Matthew Sharpsteen, freshmen, attended the first 9-10 All-Carolina Select Choir. The weekend was held at Wingate University, located near Charlotte, SC on January 30 and 31. Over 600 ninth and tenth grade students auditioned from North and South Carolina, and four of the 145 students chosen were from Brevard High School.

Dr. Andre Thomas of Florida State University was the conductor of the choir, which rehearsed Friday and Saturday for a concert on Saturday afternoon. While students were rehearsing, there was a High School Educator Summit offered by Dr. Kenny Potter, who is the Director of Choral Activities and Music Education at Wingate University.

Freshmen Emily Sheffield and Matthew Sharpsteen are also attending the 67th Annual J. Elwood Roberts Choral Festival at Mars Hill University on February 6 and 7. OVer 300 students were selected after an audition to participate in the festival. Dr. Karen Kennedy of the University of Miami was a guest conductor featured during the weekend. Students rehearsed Friday and Saturday for a Saturday afternoon concert.
