VIZ Leadership Program

by: Lauren Tooley

Transylvania County is privileged to employ and support a talented, diverse group of leaders. Through the VIZ program, a student leadership program that is sponsored by the Vision Program of Transylvania County, students can experience and learn from these leaders.
Throughout the year, high school juniors travel around the community and learn about the different aspects that make Transylvania County successful. The goal is to teach students how to listen, learn, and lead.

Participants are given the opportunity to interact with different types of leaders in our community, from the mayor of Brevard to the president of the Music Center.

“I’ve learned that everybody ends up doing what they’re doing through completely different ways and everybody’s really different in what they want to do and what they achieve,” said Ellie Rudd, a student in the program this year.

Students like Rudd use the diverse curriculum of the program to gain perspectives that they can use to improve their leadership skills.

All sophomores are encouraged to apply to be a part of this incredible program in their junior year. The guidance counselors of the high schools will have applications for sophomores in early April. For more information, visit http://www.visiontc.org/369-2/youth-leadership-program/.
