Wrestling and Track Success

On Saturday, February 11, the Blue Devils took home multiple awards in the sports world. With indoor track, senior Eliza Witherspoon took third in the 3200 meter, with multiple other Devils making top 10 finishes.

The team was also proud of having first place finishes by Noah Graham in the 1600, 3200, and 4X800 meter relay team.

“The state meet was a great success,” said Witherspoon. “We had a lot of first time placers as well as first time qualifiers.”

The men’s team finished third overall, and the women finished in sixth.

With wrestling, the Blue Devils competed Saturday, February 11 at West Lincolnton High in Lincolnton. Five players had successful matches, pushing them to the state championships. All five had top 4 finishes with excellent matches.

“We wrestled 16 teams,” said senior Daniel McJunkin.

Senior Tanner Ellenberger took home his 100th career win in his final regional match to finish first. He is excited to advance to state and continue to wrestle. The state championships will begin on Thursday, February 16th.
