Taco Bell Classic

by Meredith Hooper

Last weekend, our track team competed at the Taco Bell Classic in Columbia, SC. It was an invitational meet, and the best of the best in the southeast all met up to compete with each other.  Celia Richmond, Xzavya Walker, and Andrew Robinson were standouts at this meet where they all set personal records.

Opposed to it being a team sport, track is more individual based, with all of the team members working towards a common goal.

Kyle Prohaska, a member of the track team, spoke fondly of his teammates and their performance at the meet.

“We went out and competed. We went to a 4A classic and we definitely placed in a lot of events and we did really well,” Kyle Prohaska said.

Celia Richmond ran the 200 meter dash and the 100 meter dash, and she set a personal record in both. She says that if she could change anything about her performance, she wouldn’t be as hard on herself.

“It was a really big meet, but everyone was nervous, and it was a personal goal meet,” Celia Richmond said.

Andrew Robinson, a seasoned runner, set a personal record last weekend while at the meet.

“I ran the 3200 (meter), which is the 2 mile. I ran 9:37, which I was pretty happy with,” Andrew Robinson said.

“That was our first meet this year that was on that big of a stage, and I thought everyone handled the pressure really well, and I’m really proud of everybody.”

Great job to our track team for their amazing performance at this meet!
