Holidays are a time to spread happiness and joy with family.

Foster children do not exactly have a family they can spend the holidays with, which is why Brevard High School has a fundraiser to raise money so we can buy gifts for foster children in our county.

This year, Student Council raised over $2,700 dollars and bought more than 225 gifts. They went around local businesses to raise the money for the children that would otherwise not have a Christmas.

“Winter Days is a fundraiser put on by the Brevard High School Student Council,” said senior Student Council member Aly Henneberry. “What we do is we raise money from local businesses and people here at the school and people around the community and we use the money that we raise to buy gifts for foster children that are in our county that otherwise would not have a Christmas. So, this year we raised over $2,600 dollars, and we used that money to buy gifts for over 50 children in our area that would not have a Christmas without our gifts that we bought for them.”

The most recent annual report on foster children in Transylvania County states that 55 children were served through the foster care program in 2014.

Hopefully, the holidays will be a great time for everyone.
